In January 2022, China imported 566,000 tons of meat, a decrease of nearly 90,000 tons or 14% month-on-month; a year-on-year decrease of 320,000 tons, a decrease of 36%.

In February 2022, China imported 506,000 tons of meat, a month-on-month decrease of 60,000 tons or 11%; a year-on-year decrease of 210,000 tons, a decrease of 29%.

In the first two months, China imported 1.07 million tons of meat, a year-on-year decrease of 530,000 tons or 33%.

Month-on-month trend analysis: China's monthly meat imports have shown a downward trend after hitting a record high of 1.02 million tons in March 2021. In the 11 months from April 2021 to February 2022, imports fell month-on-month in most months. Meat imports fell to 650,000 tonnes in December 2021, the lowest monthly import of the year. In January and February 2022, meat imports continued to decline month-on-month.

Year-on-year trend analysis: From May 2021 to February 2022, the import volume of meat decreased year-on-year for 10 consecutive months, and the decline showed an expanding trend. Among them, the monthly decline since December 2021 has reached 30% year-on-year.

It is worth noting that although meat imports in the first two months of this year (1.07 million tons) were lower than the same period in 2021 (1.6 million tons) and also lower than the same period in 2020 (1.25 million tons), however, from the longer In terms of time frame, the import volume of 1.07 million tons is still at a high level in the same period in history, more than 50% higher than the normal level before the African swine fever epidemic, which still poses a great pressure on the domestic market.
